Over the years our core business has expanded to include personal financial management, investment services, taxation assistance, and public education.

We make regular visits to South Australian regional centres so that all South Australians have ready access to our services.

Today, we are a multi-disciplined Government Business Enterprise and an agency of the South Australian Attorney-General’s Department and we are committed to the continuous improvement of the services we offer to the South Australian community.

Our History

Public Trustee was founded on 1 January 1881 by the State Government to oversee the safe and economic administration of deceased estates. Over the years, although deceased estate administration and trusts have remained core business activities, we have grown and assumed additional responsibilities.

These additional responsibilities have expanded, particularly in the area of Personal Financial Administration where some members of the community need our support to manage their financial affairs.   This reflects South Australia’s ageing population, an increase in the number of people who no longer have capacity to manage their own financial affairs and people living in the community with a disability or mental health issues.
